Let’s help change the world and our map of the future.

Where did approximately 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tons of plastic produced from 1950 to 2017 go? Yep, you guessed it — landfills (and we know some of that made it to the waterways). Here’s the thing, though, we have recognized the problem, and we can all help fix it.

Here are 10 ways we can all help today and change the map of the future for our world, communities, natural resources, and wildlife:

Reduce. Recycle. Reuse. We can certainly do this at home, but also think about those companies (hint: like Ecotech™) that involve the 3 R’s in their manufacturing. Seek out companies who are actively working on sustainability.

We've mentioned microplastics, but did you know these can come from things like face wash (those exfoliating beads are plastic) and even clothes when you wash them? Consider the products you buy in terms of the packaging and the product itself. Try to stretch out the time between washing clothes. (If they smell, though, you know what to do.)

Single-use items. We all know we shouldn’t use straws, plastic shopping bags, or cups. Convenience wins but at what cost? Don’t forget single-use metal baking pans, tea bags, coffee pods, plastic cutlery, and other items that can be used only once.

Buy recycled products and look for brands with sustainability as a core value.

Clean the items you put in your recycling bin. Make sure that you know your local rules and recycle codes to make the most of everything you can recycle.

When visiting natural resources, make sure to take all of your trash with you.

Compost.There are a lot of great resources to figure out how to get started. You can compost more than leftover produce. You can also compost cardboard, yard clippings, tea bags, coffee grounds, and pet fur can be added.

Stay informed. Laws, innovations, and new techniques are happening regularly. Stay up-to-date so that you can jump on the latest recycling programs and make the most of every day.

Volunteer for local cleanup projects. Look for opportunities in your community to help clean up waterways, work with recycling programs, or more.
